Kim: Day 14

SA2SOS Aug 3, 2015

Today started with Mass at an old historic church in Ft. Davis - just a block from our hotel.

We then mozied down the street to Fort Davis National Historic Site - this is one advantage to staying in a tiny town - everything is close. This National Park was very interesting and different than the others that we have been visiting so far on this trip. The others have been about geological formations or the Indian settlements of the past. This one was about frontier life in the late 1800's. They had activities going on while we were there that gave the kids a taste of the games frontier kids played then. Abby tried her hand at baseball and stickball. There were several interpreters dressed up throughout the area sharing their knowledge, and we learned a lot about the life of a frontier soldier in West TX.

We came back to our hotel area and walked to the local deli for lunch, eating on the covered porch, then enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with a dip in the pool and a nap on the shady patio.

Some views of downtown Fort Davis

Dinner was at the Indian Lodge, built by the CCC, at Davis Mountain State Park.

A scenic drive south through the mountain area brought us to Marfa TX where we watched the sun set and tried to take in the Marfa Lights...
