Kim: Day 15

SA2SOS Aug 4, 2015

Today we spent most of our day at McDonald Observatory, taking in the museum and visitor center gift shop, as well as attending a lecture and solar viewing. Then we got to explore the really good stuff on a tour of the big telescopes. We spent an hour and a half viewing and learning about 2 of the large research telescope up on the hill. We drove on the highest road in Texas to get there.

A storm greeted us at the end of our tour, but as we drove, we left it behind. We meandered across the Davis Mountains and stopped at a few interesting stops along the way, including Prada Marfa and a tethered blimp used by the US border patrol.

Our scenic driving led us back to Marfa where we explored the town and the Hotel Paisano where the actors stayed when shooting the film "Giant" - James Dean, etc..

Landing back in Fort Davis, we had the best type of dinner - an ice cream dinner and then relaxed at our hotel patio and pool, not searching out sunsets at all, but enjoying the relaxing time with family before our roadtrip comes to a close tomorrow after 16 days.
