Stacy: Day 1 - 'Leaving??? on a Jet Plane'

Camino de Santiago Sep 23, 2023

Well. That almost turned into one of those flights you read about in 'the papers.' We sat on the runway, out of the way for at least 1.5 hours. The pilots were on the phone with maintenance about the flight management system. It's not like that's an integral part of flying an aircraft, or anything...........

Turned out that the computer had a problem with the crew's/personnel's data or something like that)--perhaps their work schedule? I haven't the foggiest idea, but even though it didn't sound 'mission critical,' we couldn't leave without the computer being happy.

They brought us back to the gate so the whole plane could be rebooted. But, we couldn't find someone to push us there!

Finally, we docked at the gate, and they allowed us to disembark if we wanted. Kim and I did, but mom and dad stayed on. I'm really glad we got off to stretch our legs and use an actual bathroom one final time.

All said and done, we flew out of Newark approximately 3.5 hours after we were supposed to leave.

Enjoy these photos I took in the sky as we approached Newark! The spiral-like ones are of Tropical Storm Ophelia. Pretty neat, eh?

Arriving into Newark:

All of the 'dark' and 'night' photos were taken with Google's Night Sight on! Otherwise, all you could see was the small spot of the moon.
